Port Arthur Historic Site is located on the south coast of Tasmania Australia. Port Arthur Tasmania is one of Australia's most import convict sites. The British needed somewhere to send their convicts. What better place than the other side of the world. Port Arthur is deemed so important that its a UNESCO world heritage site. When you visit Tasmania like we did earlier this year a trip to Port Arthur should be on the list of things to do. Port Arthur is located an hour away from Hobart Tasmania. It's certainly one of the best things to do in Hobart and surrounds. You can drive to Port Arthur or take a Port Arthur tour. We went to Port Arthur with Gray Line Australia on a 9-hour tour. If you fancy something a bit different there are Port Arthur Ghost tours after the sun goes down. Port Arthur is reported to be one of the most haunted spots in Australia. Port Arthur served as a jail, convict site from the 1830's through to the 1880's. Port Arthur was a cruel place to be sent where men were broken down both physically and mentally.
